Torquay has Kent’s Cavern and a large model village among other attractions and there is a go kart track on the way to the delightful fishing port of Brixham.

Naturally, there is much in Torquay itself to explore, but Torbay itself covers Paignton, Brixham and Dartmouth, all highly individual towns and all worth a visit in their own right. Getting to them is simple and quick and the journey by ferry across the River Dart on the way to Dartmouth is a mini-adventure in itself.

The area as a whole is named The English Riviera and on a summer’s evening, sipping a drink in one of the many bars located all around the Bay itself it is easy to see why. It evokes memories of Cannes, Capri, Nice and Monaco all at the same time, although fortunately not with the prices to match! Some of the residents don’t necessarily have the fashion sense of our European neighbours, but then you can’t have everything!

There is a bewildering variety of places to eat and drink in Torquay where they seem to close and re-open as a different venue almost daily. For those of less mature years, there is a lively club scene as well, although we have to take our children’s word for it – we are more of an authority on bars and restaurants!

Fish is of course a big item on all Bay menus – most of it locally caught in Brixham and mostly fresh that day. Everything from Traditional Fish and Chips (of varying quality it has to be said) to higher quality restaurant fare such as Sole, Monkfish, Crab, Lobster, Plaice and Gurnard to name but a few.
